Scholarship funds support the academic and leadership potential of Class of 2025 recipients.
Armuchee High School proudly announced the recipients of the 2025 Thomas G. Harris Scholarship during this year’s Senior Awards Night. Graduates Shari Torres, Caleb Fellows, and Taylor Ragland were each selected to receive a scholarship to support their college education and future service to others.
These awards recognize students who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, leadership, resilience in the face of adversity, and a commitment to making a lasting impact in their communities.
The T.G. Harris Scholarship was established in 2007 to honor the legacy of Thomas G. Harris, a beloved educator, coach, and mentor who spent over four decades inspiring students at Armuchee High School. In the years since its founding, the program has invested more than $1 million in 48 student recipients, helping them pursue higher education and fulfill their potential.
Shari Torres plans to attend college as a dual major in Psychology and Biomedical Science with the goal of becoming a Biomedical Laboratory Officer in the U.S. Air Force. Inspired by her father, a disabled Air Force veteran, Shari has built her future around service and science. “Growing up with a role model like my dad showed me the meaning of leadership, sacrifice, and purpose,” she said. “This scholarship is a step toward honoring that legacy and creating my own.” At Armuchee, Shari served as a section leader in the marching band and is excited to continue developing as a leader through ROTC and college life on campus.
Caleb Fellows, the Class of 2025 salutatorian, will pursue a degree in engineering. His passion for building and design began at a young age, and despite experiencing personal and physical challenges, Caleb remained focused on his academic and personal goals. “I’ve had to rebuild and refocus through some very hard seasons,” he said. “This scholarship allows me to keep pushing forward, fully committed to my education and future career.” Caleb hopes to use his degree to provide for his family one day and contribute meaningfully to his community.
Taylor Ragland plans to major in Exercise Science and ultimately pursue a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. Her interest in healthcare is rooted in personal experience and shaped by mentors who have demonstrated the power of compassionate, community-based care. Despite the personal adversity Taylor faced throughout high school, she excelled in academics, church leadership, athletics, and part-time work. “This scholarship lifts an enormous weight,” she shared. “Now I can step into college with more peace of mind and keep working toward a career that helps others feel seen, supported, and strong.”
Surrounded by proud teachers, family members, and community leaders, these three students accepted their awards as the newest recipients of a scholarship that reflects not only academic promise, but also the heart of what it means to serve others, lead with purpose, and uplift others. These are the values Thomas G. Harris modeled throughout his life and career, and his legacy lives on through the students who now carry that torch forward.
